This question specifically relates to the dry cleaning
solvent known as perchloroethylene (perc). Despite questions of
the health effects of this chemical agent in the past 5 years,
there is no scientific evidence to show any correlation between
it and harm to humans.
As with most chemicals, high-level perc exposure can induce headaches,
dizziness, nausea, and eye and skin irritation, but such prolonged
exposure can not arise from simply picking up or wearing clothes
that have been recently drycleaned. Moreover, the levels found
within our facilities is far below such harmful quantities.
Perc has been used by the drycleaning industry for more than sixty
years, and there has never been any proof linking perc with an
elevated occurance of cancer.
Finally, perc is thoroughly regulated by the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration and the EPA. We pride ourselves in following
every safety procedure to provide a healthful environment to our
customers, employees, and the earth.
